形態特徵

• Large Evergreen trees; branchlets glabrous.
• Leaves thinly coriaceous, obovate-lanceolate, ovate to oblong, 8-15 cm long, 3-5 cm broad, acuminate to acute at apex, cuneate to obtuse at base, with 3 main veins, glabrous and shining above, appressed blackish or brown puberulent and glaucous or brown beneath when young, later becoming slightly puberulent along midrib beneath, midrib slightly elevated above, prominently elevated and slightly puberulent beneath, lateral veins 3-4 pairs, at upper part of blade, slightly impressed or elevated above, prominently elevated beneath, veinlets subparallel, indistinct; petioles 1.5 cm long, glabrous or nearly so.
• Inflorescences umbellate, 3-7-flowered; staminate flowers buds globose, sessile; involucral bracts 4, broadly obovate to elliptic, obtuse at apex, sericeous outside, glabrous inside; tepals 4, 4.5 mm long, violet-red, sericeous outside; fertile stamens 6, 1st and 2nd whorles of stamens eglandular, 3rd whorl with 2 glands, anthers oblong; pistillate flowers with short pedicels; tepals 4, ovate, hairy outside; staminodes 6-9, styles hairy.
• Fruit ellipsoid, 9-11 mm long, glabrous; pedicels 8-10 mm long, glabrous, with persistent tepals.

flowering February to July; maturing November to December.

分布

• 台灣 : in broad-leaved forests from medium to high altitudes in the central part of the island.
• 世界 : Perhaps in Japan?.
